Evolutionary Logic Programming with RISC

چکیده

Logic programs represent logical theories. Therefore implementing and testing a logic program results in a cyclical process of theory changes. We strongly believe that a logic programming environment should assist the user in this theory reenement process. Upon the transition from one theory to a new one, the system should maintain as much knowledge as possible about what became known to the user in each of the old theories. In this paper we show how an explicit representation of this knowledge can make possible what we call evolutionary logic programming: programming in an environment that actively supports the user conducting and evaluating experiments with diierent theories and assists in the transition from one theory to another. We also present a system called RISC that realizes these ideas. RISC is able to process generalized Horn clause theories which allow for a logically pure speciication of experiments and the formulation of integrity constraints.
